Care About The Strays (C.A.T.S.) is a volunteer group working in Rockland County • NY. This group is dedicated to the care and control of feral cats. Feral cats are the offspring of free-roaming or abandoned household pets. Raised without human contact, they revert to a wild nature and form colonies where food and shelter are available.
We use the method called Trap/Neuter/Release. After a cat/kitten is rescued it is given a complete examination by a veterinarian, which includes spaying and neutering, vaccinating against rabies and distemper, and testing for feline aids and leukemia. All of these procedures are done age appropriate. Cats that are not friendly are returned to their respective areas where they are monitored, provided with shelters, and fed daily. Friendly, healthy cats and kittens are never released. They are held in foster care until a permanent home becomes available.
We receive no funding and rely on individual donations and fund-raisers.
Volunteers are always needed to trap and/or foster cats and kittens. We will train anyone over 21 willing to trap or foster.
